If you are new here, welcome! If you are a former client and stumbled onto my new blog, welcome back! You can file this post under "the more things change, the more they stay the same".
Back in the day (circa 2009 - 2010) I had a kinda sorta blog site. It was strictly about my photography business, and to be honest, unless you were the subject of the post, probably pretty boring. That blog fizzled out after about a year or so, although I did publish a few posts in 2013 before officially shuttering it. Sadly, I doubt anyone noticed.
So much has changed in my life and in my business in the past 12-18 months. I knew I needed to make some big changes to my website. Unfortunately, the old blog was a simple Wordpress site, so this blog is going to start fresh TODAY!
But here is the thing—I don't want to just blog about photography. While I love photographing clients, photography alone does not define who I am or what I feel. For instance, way back in 2009, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went through that whole spring/summer/fall, photographing clients, while undergoing multiple surgeries and radiation treatments. Yet I didn't breathe a word about it on my blog. My business was only two years old, and I was afraid that I would lose bookings if people thought I was too sick. I didn't talk about my cancer on my blog until two months after I to the "all clear" from my oncology team. So clients had no idea how much pain I was in or why I seemed tired or not quite "all there" during their sessions or weddings. They didn't know why it probably took me a little too long to get their sneak peeks posted either. Wow, that makes me really sad to think about how closed off I kept myself through that whole experience.
So...I want to be more transparent on this new blog. Not so transparent that I am vomiting my personal life all over the place and making YOU nauseous. But you will see posts that cover all of my interests, including traveling around the country in our RV, the latest book I've read, what I'm learning to play on the piano, new recipes I'm cooking or DIY projects I'm undertaking. I may occasionally ask other people to write guest posts too! I am hoping to post twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, but I am also (honest disclosure here) a little nervous about making an iron-clad commitment to that.
I hope you will join in on this new chapter, and stick around for the fun! Feel free to leave a comment saying "hi" or making a suggestion for a future blog topic. I'm glad you are here!
